Introduction & Objectives
The objective of this assignment is study and getting familiar with a concept called Process-Related Risk Analysis Method (PFRA) and Disassembly Failure Risk Analysis. Those are part of the lean six sigma toolset that are used in TQM. This method is based on quantitative and open source computational method developed by Dr. Ranky. What is interesting about those tools they focus team oriented problem solving method. The goal is reduce financial loss and failure risks throughout the process.
Applied Methodology Description
The methodology we are going to applied the PFRA tool. A template is provided to Bickson Technology thanks to Dr. Ranky. In our case, Bickson technology is going figure out the scope and the function of DFRA changes and its application to the process of our company disassembling pipes and valves and the entire process of our maintenance services. According to the e-book the various steps are the following:
We intend to define the process design that is going to be analyzed
Identify the potential risks and failure mode and their effects
Prioritize potential failures
Select and manage subsequent actions.
Observe and learn
Document the process
Enter the values into the PFRA / DFRA spreadsheet on a relative scale
Main Body of Project
How & why the company would apply the learned TQM methods and Tools to improve it in terms of reducing risky processes
Bickson Technology is company that is dedicated to provide quality services to pipeline infrastructure around the world. Thanks to TQM, we are able to use lean six sigma tools in order to manage the potential risks and failures that can be cost in the business of installing pipes and valves. Whenever our risk of failure is high our TQM principle would be able to provide us with an immediate control plan that can contain the situation specially when dealing hazardous liquids and gas that going through those pipes. A spill can not only cost our clients millions but it can be hazardous to the environment. We intend to document our process. We have to learn from the data that we collect. We intend to store electronically PFRA/DFRA information that can be readily accessible to our technicians and Robot/AI that can interpret and analyze that information thanks to their advance software. We intend to have an intranet connection that can connect all of our servers to that information around the world.
The result of the PFRA spreadsheet is taken under great consideration. Our team of expert analyzes the spreadsheet and provides corrective measure in order to mitigate potential risk. In our case we have to have two processes with high risk. The first one is taking of or putting the bolt. The second is the removal and installation of the valve. Our team is analyzing the process statistically in order to provide the appropriate solution.
Analysis
of PFRA results
For the analysis, what we have analyzed is the simple removal of pipe that is attached to a valve. The pipes corrode rapidly and require our crew to change them very often. That is the reason why Bickson Technologies decide to analyze the process. According to our analysis the risk associated is very high when are removing a bolt. Our immediate action is required. It is the same case when it comes to the removal of our pipes by crane. We have other high risk processes that we plan to improve. |
Collaboration
We are collaborating with Yasksawa in order to design better bolt gun that can adjust the torque of the gun accordingly. We are also working with them in order to design custom forklift that can adjust better to the shape of the valve. The challenge that our company face is the fact the bolts can break during their removal. Molex will provide sensors and that can analyze the stress in those bolts and alarm our robot operators to stop before they break.
Sustainable greening and the benefits
Since we are dealing with hazardous liquids and gases it is important in our business that we provide processes that are not putting the environment at risk. The PFRA spreadsheets allow the team of expert at Bickson Technology to mitigate those risks in order to provide clean, green services to our clients.

Panorama Navigational Map
This Panorama Navigation Map technology can be very useful in studying risky processes and mitigating those risks. By taking a 360 degree interactive map of a local area one can study the problem from all angles, literally. One can also take as long as need to study the problem, instead of just a few hours at each location. By doing this, the expert may find things that were overlooked if just visiting the location once. In this specific panorama navigation map several processes can be explored and analyzed for risk, effect and mitigation.
One of the first risk processes that Bickson Technologies would use the Panorama Navigational Map when the Robotics/AI maintenance crew is taking out a bolt that is rusty it sometimes break. Bickson Technologies would use the navigational map to prevent such things from happening. The way we would do it is whenever rust is gathering on a bolt or a screw we would notice the rust progression by using the navigational map that way we can send another robot to spray lubricants and anti-rust chemicals that are environmentally friendly to the bolt. That way when the time comes when we have to take them out the problem would be greatly reduced.
Another useful process to explore with this technology is when Bickson Technologies is sending our autonomous robotic cranes out in the field. We want them to stand on solid ground. The navigational map would give use a great view of field that will allow us to position our equipment in better locations.
Summary and further work needed
This assignment consists of analyzing risk and failures. The managers and engineers at Bickson Technologies have done their part in mitigating the different risks in our processes. The people that need to be involved in order to improve our odds of succeeding are our vendors and suppliers. We also need to work with people that are manufacturing the pipes and valves and the different component our system in order to provide an overall better service and product for our customers.
